Dentist, Author, Kidney Transplant Recipient, and Patient Advocate
Dr. Sonu Bhargava is an author, educator, and patient advocate. She created ABC Revisited, an interactive book and learning framework that helps children understand essential mind skills and values through real-life experiences. She serves as an ambassador for CORE Kidney at UCLA and is an official volunteer at UCLA Health. As a retired dentist, kidney transplant recipient, and cancer survivor, she offers a rare dual perspective as both clinician and patient, enriching her work in education, health literacy, and self-advocacy.
Dr. Bhargava earned her DDS from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at USC in 2001 and her BDS from the College of Dental Surgery, Manipal, India, in 1998. Her early career was rooted in patient care and holistic well-being, with a strong emphasis on communication, prevention, and empathy.
In 2005, her post-graduate studies were abruptly interrupted by pericarditis and acute renal failure, a life-altering event that reshaped her personal and professional path. Since then, she has navigated a complex health journey, facing ankylosing spondylitis, amyloidosis, dialysis, kidney transplantation, urinary bladder reconstruction, and cancer. These experiences continue to inform her work at the intersection of education, resilience, and patient empowerment.
