9-time Billiards & Snooker World Champion

In my experience of the last 35 years and in my pursuit to achieve ultimate focus in Billiards, I find myself increasingly becoming aware of the close link between concentration, hard work, aptitude, and deep love for what one is doing. The combination and amalgamation of all of the above creates that wonderfully potent experience called “focus” which is directed towards a particular activity.

To Achieve success in life, it is very critical to identify the personal and professional values that take you towards your goals. One very important value that helps in achieving what we strive for is Focus. Focus means 'to look directly at an object/objective in order to see it more clearly.' When you have an attitude of aiming high, you need to make sure that you have the best focus in the world. Focus is like a torch beam, and it has to be used accordingly. Firstly, focus has to be bright. This will only come about if you focus hard, with all the intensity at your disposal. Second, sometimes the torch is more efficient if its beam is broad. When a problem is being worked out, a broad focus is needed to identify all variables that might have an impact on the problem. However, there are times when one has to be as sharply focused as a laser. Then one needs to be thinking of just one thing—the goal. Finally, a torch might have the brightest, narrowest beam, but if that beam is not pointed in the right direction, it is not much good at all. One cannot afford to focus on irrelevant details. What do you focus on when you have a goal? On your goal, of course! But intense focus alone is not enough. One needs to go deeper and focus on all the actions required to be taken in order to achieve that goal. If we can focus on getting the actions right, achieving the goal will be the inevitable result.
