Knowledge goes far beyond what we learn in the classroom. In dental school, I learned to bend wire in orthodontics, a skill I never expected to use outside dentistry. Later, when I was bedridden for a prolonged period of time, I used that skill to make jewelry. Creating jewelry gave me purpose and helped me heal. Making each piece brought calm amid crisis. When we synthesize knowledge from different systems and studies, we find solutions that are efficient and holistic. Lessons from many fields stay with us and help us face challenges and find meaning when life takes an unexpected turn. The journey of knowing is lifelong, and it fuels innovation, empathy, and progress.
